The Greatest Gifts

Happy Holidays from Barrier’s Books & Associates

The things we share with each other are deeply felt from within our hearts that neither of us will ever forget. For the gifts that are priceless are the ones that are heartfelt; their roots are within our soul. They are the greatest gifts, of all. __ Ellen J. Barrier

Faith the Shield

Faith is the shield that negative words bounces off.
Anything that gets in the way of Faith is destroyed.
The person that possesses Faith has hope.
God stands between Faith and its challenger.

The person who has a relationship with God, character is conditioned to be stronger, courageous, determined and bold, having an authority nature to stand against oppositions.
“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”
 Ephesians 6:16 (K.J.V)

There are many challenges we encounter in life.  It is impossible to survive without having spiritual help to withstand. The fiery darts mentioned in the statement above, are those challenges that comes from sources that are hurtful mentally and can also cause physical harm.

The writer of the statement noted, “Above all” he wants the reader to fully understand the importance of Faith and how it is used as a shield that is a spiritual weapon effectively. And without Faith, it is impossible to succeed in life.

The Power of Endurance and Perseverance

There are many things that challenge our ability to endure and persevere. When we discover the power within ourselves, we become victorious.

In order to defeat our challengers and rise above every obstacle, we must be able to persevere.

Family Business

The number one business priority is family. The strength of a man is in his character.
A strong man takes care of his family.  He provides them with financial support and spiritual guidance.
He teaches his household respect for himself and for others, by the example he set based on his characteristic traits. His wife and children greatly respect him. He is well respected in his community for his help in times of need.

He spends quality time with his children, helps them with their educational needs, and lets them know his love for them is one that will never fail. He is a great man of wisdom who understand, that the most important thing in life is the love of a father for his children.

He provides his wife with the support she need from him, and is never afraid to show his love and respect for her. These are the things that children remember the most; the love of a father, and his love for their mother.

Success Stories

The building blocks for every success story, is confidence.
Those who succeed are the ones who do not view age, as a determining factor in their future.
Ageless dreamers are the people who have the greatest stories to tell. They distance themselves from negative people, who believe in such terms as “If I had done”
“what if”  “ Why?” “should have”  “could have”  “I am too old”  “would have”  “I can’t”
Such beliefs create doubt that hinders success.
The greatest treasures received from success stories, are the blessings and love received from sharing the proceeds with others, from hard work that made dreams come true.

“Life is a journey; let's enjoy it, seeing some exciting things, and having fun along the way.”

God Condemns Violence

The individual that believes God permits a man to hit a woman or speak to her using abusive language, is void of understanding who God is. He condemns violence in any form.

Heaven is The Only Place Where Prayers are Not Made

My plans for my trip would take a miracle for me to get to my destination.
This trip is one of importance; it is our annual extravaganza. I am the sponsor and speaker. This is a 4 day event of fun and excitement: Fashion  & Talent shows, Musical, Items for sale, door prizes, Games, and lots of food and drinks.
The weather is a problem:
At 5:00 a.m., I was awakened by a horrible storm.  Tornadoes were said to be wrapped in rain and air traffic was halted. People were reportedly stranded in airports.  The streets and highways were not suitable for traffic, according to a weather report.
Today is Thursday. My plans were to leave at 5:00 a. m. I have several vans packed with equipment and other things needed for this event that is scheduled in the great state of Texas! My family is asking, “Shall we start unpacking?”  They believe it is hopeless.  “The storms are not going to allow us to travel.”
I am not ready to give up. So, my decision was to wait until 8:00 a. m., and see if it is possible for us to leave.  While we are waiting I am praying for a miracle. The rain stopped completely at 9:00 a.m., the weather report informed of scattered thundershowers ahead.
We left Kansas at 10:00 a.m. There were some lightning and thunderstorms along our journey. We arrived in Texas in the very late evening; thankful to God for a safe trip, a nice hotel and good Texas food to eat before retiring for the night, and looking forward  to a great event with family and friends, and meeting lots of new people and old friends.
My Speech:   The Storms of Life
On the first night of this event, I opened with a prayer and testimony. Everyone has a story to tell. I want to hear their stories. Many of their stories were very sad ones. My purpose is to listen, and to determine how best I can help each person. After listening to their stories, I chose to speak about The Storms of Life.
Storms will come and there is nothing we can do to prevent them. However, we can pray and patiently wait for God to get us safely through the storms. Just as the weather related storms cause disasters and harm and will halt our plans. So does the things that occur in our lives; such things as sickness, accidents, loss of financial income, divorce, problems in relationships, family problems and other reasons for unhappiness. We have a choice; give up or endure.
Hope comes from prayer. It gives us strength to endure and to persevere. Heaven is the only place where prayers are not made.

The Two Systems

Justice and Legal Systems

There are two systems that govern our lives; they are justice and legal.
Justice belongs to God. And legal belongs to the court of laws governed by man.
In order to properly represent a client, an attorney needs facts.
That would include documents, photos, and all other factual information in the case.
Many people like to quote the prophet Isaiah “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper.”
That text is based on righteous behavior. Justice from God is given to the righteous.
As we see in both systems, the client has to provide proof.
Some cases are lost in the court of laws due to poor representation because of lack of evidence. The client has to work closely with the attorney and provide facts in the case. To win a case, the client has to give the attorney the weapons to fight with. That is the evidence.
Justice is sought in the courtrooms through many prayers from the lips of those who pass through the legal system daily.
Truth is on the side of the righteous in the Justice system, it is the greatest of all weapons.

Helping Others

These Are the Times I Am Happy To Have Stayed Awhile Longer

A father was doused with gasoline and a burning match was tossed on him in an attempt to kill him.
This gentleman was paralyzed from waist down to his lower extremities.  His doctor had ordered treatments on his wounds three times daily.  After I had discussed his treatments with him, he started to cry. He said “My own son tried to kill me.”  The motive:  An argument over money.  He needed to tell his story. I listened, as he cried while telling me something that no parent would believe they would ever have a need to share.
This was a terminal ill patient who wanted prayer
During my visit with her; with her permission, I placed my hands on the area of her surgical incision, and prayed for her healing. She received a miracle healing. Her doctor dismissed her for home a few days later.
There are many different ways of which we can help others if we stay awhile longer.

Healed from Incurable Lung Disease

We are Strong like the Eagle when Facing our Challengers

In everything we do there will always be things to challenge our inner strength. The strength of the eagle is in his wings. Therefore, his strength is physical. But he is able to use that strength to defeat his challengers. Our challengers are of a mental strength. The way we deal with them is on an intellectual and spiritual level. We must have a force within our spiritual being that will enable us to endure and to persevere in times of hardships and persecutions.

For me and many others, we gain that strength through prayer. Therefore, during our difficult times, when facing our challengers, we don't give up. Instead, we mount up! And we defeat our challengers. We succeed..

"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles: they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31) K.J.V

Great Achievers Don't Stand Down

The “Down” Game
There is a game in life, called “Down.”  If you play it, you will lose.
I don’t play the “Down” game.
When I am told, I will lose, I say, I will win!
When I am told I can’t succeed, I say, I will.
If I am told to stop! I proceed, I persevere!
When I am confronted with difficulties, I endure.
I won’t play this game of control!
I don't back down, and I don't stand down.
I won’t bow down for anyone.
I won’t play the “Down” game!

I am prepared to win, and not for shame.

Regardless of what we do in life, we must be willing to stay focused on our goals. Great achievers persevere in spite of the challenges they face. Oftentimes they stand alone, not by choice, but by the spirit of endurance and perseverance within themselves; that refuse to stand down, when the odds are against them, and when others have given up on them. The power to never stand down when facing a challenge is within the making of every great achiever.

Peace Can Never Be Achieved by Violence

If the majority of the people living in society, have no compassion and no empathy for others;
then, the majority of the people have no moral values. Therefore, violence exists among them.
They believe that wars are the answer to solve their differences, to achieve peace.
Violence creates more violence, and leads to the destruction of communities and nations.

“Violence is avoided, when we sit down with others, and discuss issues, and work together for solutions.”
― Ellen J. Barrier

*God give us knowledge to understand how to solve our differences peacefully.

Irresponsible People

School bus driver kicks a sick child off the bus and is not fired

The child is an elementary student who became sick on the school bus while in route to school.
The child’s symptoms: Vomiting
Weather Conditions: Extreme Cold
The Child’s Parents Reactions: Want the bus driver terminated.

Question: Should the bus driver be terminated?

It seems we live in a society where some people have lost the sense of caring. When we lose the sense of caring for others, society suffers. It is seen in homes, schools, workplaces, churches, court houses, law enforcement and in our government where leadership is. How can we as a society, expect our children to behave properly toward others with the understanding that bullying, hate, and dishonesty, are not acceptable in our society?
